art and a science that has been handed down throughout the centuries

The fundamental basis of astrology lies with the correlation of the
planetary positions at birth to the personality and potential of an
individual. This ‘map of the heavens’ is called a ‘natal
chart’. It is calculated by the date, time and place of birth.
This chart is like a ‘blueprint’ of your life, a guide to
your characteristics and tendencies, as well as an indication as to
where fulfilment can be attained. Knowledge of the natal chart’s
aspects can indicate potential strengths and weaknesses that are present
in every individual, illuminating areas of both desire and discord.
Working with your natal chart and transit influences, you can discover
what is driving you to become the individual that you are and gives
you greater understanding of yourself, your relationships and your ideals.
A natal chart is constructed by finding the exact position
of all the planets at birth. The Ascendant, or more commonly called
the ‘rising sign’ because it is the sign that is rising on
the eastern horizon at birth, forms the focal point of the chart as
this decides the signs on each of the house cusps. The actual chart
consists of twelve segments, or houses as they are called by Astrologers,
that represent the different areas or realms of your life. All the houses
are interpreted in a chart although if a planet resides in a house,
its effect can be more emphasised. When all planets have been interpreted
and the relationships between the planets ( aspects ) have been synthesised,
a colourful canvas is painted that is the Astrologers art! It must not
be forgotten that the natal chart only shows ‘potentials’
and not necessarily ‘actuals’ for an individual has choice
in how they work with the planetary influences.
Forecasting is the Astrologer’s interpretation of
the transit position of planets at any moment in time. This can be correlated
to the way in which a weather forecast can help us to plan our daily
activities. In a similar way, knowledge of your progressions and transits
can aid you in your decision making and your reaction and responses
to situations present in your life.
Astrology is an open ended subject, as with each day dawning,
the ebb and flow of the planets are forever moving and changing the
energy present in the world.
